Swissvale Library strives to provide services and programs that benefit the lives of our diverse and wonderful neighbors. From food justice to childhood literacy to hiring a social work intern, we try to find innovative and holistic ways to reach as many groups as possible.

And now it’s time to hear from you. What do you and your community need? How can the library help? Please take our survey and share your thoughts! At the end of the survey, provide your email and be entered to win a $25 Giant Eagle gift card. And thank you for taking the time to help us assess community needs! We hope to see you soon.

Our Love Your Library Campaign was a Success!

October 8, 2021 by slimonl

Thank you for your gift for Swissvale Library’s Love Your Library Campaign!

This wonderful old building is showing its age and is not accessible to everyone. Your contribution helps ensure that it will be! The new elevator and other upgrades will make the library’s resources easily available to everyone.

And because contributions made during our Love Your Library campaign were matched with a gift of $5,000 from a generous library patron, we raised more than $25,000 (with additional, partial matching coming soon from the Jack Buncher Foundation). You helped make this success happen!

Thank you again for your thoughtful gift to the Friends of the Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale and to the many people in the community who rely on us for services and programs.

Swissvale Library Will Reopen March 29

March 28, 2021 by slimonl

Starting March 29, Swissvale Library will be open to the public! Patrons can come into the building to browse the library’s collections and check out materials. Patrons may remain in the building for up to 45 minutes, due to building capacity limits. Public computers will be available for one 30-minute session per day per person.

Contactless lobby pickup will continue to be available for our patrons who prefer it. Pick-up of materials in the lobby can be scheduled by calling the library during open hours (412-731-2300).

Computers & Printing

While the building is open, patrons may use the public computers. Sessions are for 30 minutes. Maximum of one session per day, per person. Library staff is available to provide computer assistance.

Printing, scanning, faxing and photocopying services are available. Print using our public computers, or our mobile printing service.

Programming

All in-person library programs are still suspended, but we’re excited to provide virtual programming and asynchronous programs. Learn more about our programming for adults, teens, and children.

Swissvale Library will return to lobby-only service 11/19/2020

November 18, 2020 by slimonl

In accordance with the Allegheny County stay-at-home advisory issued 11/18/2020, Swissvale Library will return to lobby-only service starting Thursday, 11/19/2020. Patrons are encouraged to continue to place holds on items and call the library for contactless lobby pickup of those items. Library staff will be available to assist via phone (412-731-2300) during open hours on Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Saturday 10 – 4 and Tuesday-Thursday noon – 6.

The library’s virtual programming will continue, and patrons always have access to downloadable e-resources.

Lobby pickup service is available at Swissvale Library. Call the library to place materials on hold or use the online catalog. When picking up your holds in the lobby, please wear a mask, practice proper social distancing (stay 6 feet away from others) and pay attention to posted signs. Don’t enter the lobby if another patron is there; wait until they have exited. Items on Swissvale Library’s shelves will be ready for pick up the next day. Items on hold from other libraries typically arrive in 7-10 days.

Faxing, WiFi printing from patron devices, and copying services are available. Call us at 412-731-2300 to arrange for these services and for WiFi printing instructions.

Please monitor this Facebook page and our website for additional details. Contact the library directly (412-731-2300 or carnegiefreelibraryofswissvale@gmail.com) with any additional questions. Stay safe!
